Greetings, readers! Here’s what’s up this week!

The funk/jazz jam band Galactic will be touring the region this week, with shows in Syracuse, NY, and Cleveland, OH. They will also be at 9:30 Club March 2nd and 3rd.  For those who don’t know, Galactic is made up of up Jeff Raines (guitar), Robert Mercurio (sax) Ben Ellman (drums), Stanton Moore (drums), and Rich Vogel (organ).  The band has featured different vocalist, as well as percussionists over the years.  For example, Corey Henry (trombone) toured from 2009 until 2016 and Shamarr Allen (trumpet) has been touring with the band from 2016 until present. Galactic was formed when childhood friends, Raines and Mercurio, left home in Maryland to attend college at Tulane in New Orleans, Louisiana. Both immediately fell in love with the culture of music in New Orleans, especially the local funk scene.  Galactic’s sound has evolved from the typical New Orleans funk, to include more elements of hip-hop and electronica. Don’t miss out on these exceptionally funky evenings. Come out and get down!

Escaper will be performing a few shows in the area to promote their new album “Edge Detection.” The Brooklyn-based quintet consists of Will Hanza (guitar, vocals), Johnny Butler (saxophone), Adam Ahuja (keyboard), Jay Giacomazzo (bass), and Andrew Nesbit (drums). Escaper is a band of individually accomplished musicians, many of whom are or have been involved in several projects.  The members’ unique and rich histories with music coalesce into sound that strives to have no limits.  Be sure to check out www.escapermusic.com to learn more about the band, watch recordings of live performances, and check out some merch.
