This December, Washington DC welcomes Pigeons Playing Ping Pong for their largest performance ever. The Baltimore natives will headline a two-night run this holiday season in the heart of the nation’s capital on December 6th and 7th.

Friday night kicks off the run with a stop at DC legend, the 9:30 Club. The band will be joined by Lespecial, dishing out a healthy blend of rock with a dash of dark, groovy undertones. A short jaunt down the road from Baltimore, word is out and fans are flying from all over for a proper hometown throwdown. Afterall, the band’s fanbase, affectionately referred to as The Flock, are no strangers to dedication. And this isn’t their first rodeo — during their April 2018 run, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong sold out the 1,200 capacity venue not once, but twice in a row

Heads up — don’t get shut out! A 2-day pass is required to gain entry on December 6th.

Saturday night the flock migrates to one of DC’s newest venues, The Anthem. Established in 2017, the venue features waterfront views and standing capacity of 6,000. The band will be supported by Here Come the Mummies, longtime Domefest artists and co-stars of the band’s latest music video, King Kong. Believed to be based out of Nashville, Tennessee, the elusive group is made up of a rotating team of musicians (whom, legend has it, may or may not hold Grammys). With a history of joining forces, there’s no telling what might happen at The Anthem (Here Come the Pigeons? Mummies Playing Ping Pong??).

Fresh off the announcement of their new album — due to be released sometime in 2020 — the band released their latest single, Dawn a New Day. Having originally teased the song at live performances, the flock might recognize the tune from the band’s 2017 Paste Magazine session. Up-beat, catchy, and fun, the song channels the signature positivity that the group has come to be known for. Break out your rose colored glasses and stream below.

Composed of Greg Ormont heading (vocals and guitar), Jeremy Schon (guitar and vocals), Ben Carrey (bass and vocals), and Alex Petropulos (percussion and self-proclaimed drumagician), Pigeons Playing Ping Pong has good reason to be optimistic. Over the past few years, the group has found many adoring fans on the East and West coasts alike, selling out numerous venues and multi-night runs. In May of 2019, the band celebrated the 10th Anniversary of Domefest, their very own fan-flockin’-tastic festival featuring 3 nights of music, art, and workshops. The Anthem will set a new record as the group’s biggest show to date. On December 31st, the band ring in the new year with their largest show ever at the ExploreAsheville.com Arena with a capacity of 7,600.

Known for their polished improvisation and undeniably fun energy, the group effortlessly toes the line between pop and jam. Never taking themselves too seriously, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong has mastered the art of putting the fun in funk.
