What is going on, readers? Welcome to the weekly digest of all things musically tasty. Found out that you have the night off work? Want to start making plans for the weekend? Here at The Jamwich we’ve got you covered.  Here’s what’s up this week.

Join friends and family at Brooklyn Bowl in New York City this Thursday, February 7th to celebrate the life of American poet and lyricist John Perry Barlow. Barlow has been accredited with writing several of The Grateful Dead’s most popular songs, such as Cassidy, Estimated Prophet, Black-Throated Wing, Mexicali Blues, Throwing Stones, along with several others. He has also worked with String Cheese Incident’s Michael Kang, helping to craft on one of the band’s fan-favorite songs, Desert Dawn.  Proceeds from this event will do directly to Barlow’s Freedom of the Press Foundation, non-profit organization dedicated to helping support and defend public-interest journalism focused on exposing mismanagement, corruption, and law-breaking in government.  Terrapin Family Band will be on-site with several special guests to make this evening one for the history books.  Get your tickets now, before they are all sold out!

The multi-genre jam band Spafford will join forces will a few great bands this week to bring us some great live performances, hopefully at a venue nearby to you.  The band will start their week off in Cleveland, OH, where they will meet up with The Cat’s Meow and Plinko for a performance at Agora Ballroom this Tuesday.  Next up is Buffalo Iron Works, in Buffalo, NY this Wednesday with Root Shock.  Thursday night Spafford will take the stage solo at Westcott Theatre in Syracuse, NY before heading to Philadelphia, PA on Friday to meet up with Beardspace to perform at Union Transfer. Their last show of the week will take place at 9:30 Club in Washington D.C, and will have support from Of Tomorrow.

Ripe, a 7-piece dance/pop-funk/dance rock band based out of Boston, MA is also touring the region this week with some of their friends. Ripe’s rhythms are highly infectious, and almost impossible to resist. With that being said, make sure to bring your best pair of boogie shoes.  Check them out this week at U Street Music Hall in Washington D.C with The Brook & The Bluff and Del Florida (02/06), Theatre of Living Arts in Philadelphia, PA with The Brook & The Bluff and Magic Giant, (02/07), Brooklyn Steel with Magic Giants (02/08), and House of Blues in Boston, MA with Harsh Armadillo and Magic Giants (02/09).

Seasoned instrumental groove-rock band Lotus make a pit-stop this weekend in Buffalo, NY for a two-night run with special guest Jaw Gems at Town Ballroom.  Two night passes for the event had sold out previously, however, the band recently announced that they now have more available. Head over here to secure a two-day pass. Single day passes are still available for purchase for both evenings, but are not guaranteed to last long. Come share in the vibes.
