Creative Being – August 21st-23rd – Toy’E Recreation – Vernon, NJ
Written by Sam Stratton
Held in scenic Sussex County New Jersey, the Creative Being Music and Arts festival will be celebrating the dog days of summer. Hosted at Toye Recreation Campgrounds in the small town of Sussex, Creative Being takes place from August 25th-28th. Presented by Lucidfoot Productions, Brian Borkan and friends have come together to create a weekend of good vibes and good music for their local scene. Borkan founded Lucidfoot in 2013 with the intention “to open your mind, be inspired, and to bring out your creative being, all while harvesting a positive atmosphere”. The music of the weekend spans from good old fashion bluegrass to reggae, with every tone of jam and funk in between. If you consider yourself a fan of all things labeled string instruments, Creative Being should be right up your alley.
Featuring bands such as Chromatropic, The Mantras, and Dr.Slothclaw, the nights are sure to be pumped with wavy jams. Primate Fiasco, who made an appearance at Peach Fest this year, will also be performing. On a personal note, I’m happy to say that the band Mystery Fyre, who isn’t afraid to play a little heavy metal, will be present as well. A single stage area will keep attention focused on whichever band is playing at the time, giving a more intimate vibe to the general show. Visual artists will be present alongside artistic installations. Need to satisfy your hunger while you’re there? Not to worry, because “Steal Your Plate” will be there to accommodate all your sustenance related needs.
Centered in the lush valleys of Appalachia, the neighboring forests are thick and lively. Due to these conditions, the temperature can quickly drop at night, so pack accordingly. The Toye Recreation Campgrounds surround a beautiful lake with matching docks, and provide RV and Trailer hook ups. The venue is also located near the Appalachian Trail and the Wallkill Wildlife Refuge. Car camping is allowed, so home base doesn’t need to be so spread out or such a hassle to put together. If you need some fun before or after the fest, check out the nearby Mountain Creek or the legendary Action Park. The Campgrounds also provide the luxury of on-site restrooms and hot showers! The only piece this puzzle is missing is you. Tickets are sixty dollars pre-sale and eighty dollars day of show. So bring all your friends, or show up solo and make some new ones! Everyone looks forward to seeing you there, whether at the lake or the stage.
