Hello Readers! Happy New Year, once again! This year make it a priority to stay positive! Whatever circumstances you find yourself in, try the best that you can to keep an optimistic outlook. For some of us this can be easier than for others.  Make it easier for yourself by joining in on the good vibes and positive energy at live concert, and share in the groove with like-minded individuals who are on the same wavelength. Need some suggestions on where to go and what to do? Here’s what’s up this week.

Don’t miss out on your chance to see the Portland, Oregon-based Fruition as they team up with Brad Parsons Band for a week full of shows throughout the region.  Fruition’s music spans a broad spectrum, but they have loosely classified themselves as a folk-rock/Americana/blues/soul group.  Either way, they are up for a good time and always bring the boogie.  Jay Cobb is on lead guitar and vocals, Kellen Asebroek plays rhythm guitar, keys and sings as well, Mimi Naja sings, and plays mandolin and guitar, Jeff Leonard keeps things steady on the bass, and Tyler Thompson lays down the beat, playing the banjo on occasion as well.  Brad Parsons and his band will open each evening with a set of Psychedelic/Americana-Rock to set the mood and get everyone loosened up. Grab your tickets now before these events sell out.  Catch both of these awesome bands at Visulite Theatre in Charlotte, NC (01/08), Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh, NC (01/09), Charleston Pour House in Charleston, DC (01/10), and Asheville Music Hall in Asheville, NC (01/11).

The well-known jazz/funk powerhouse Lettuce has joined forces with the hip-hop/world/jazz/funk group Ghost-Note for a series of shows this Thursday through Sunday.  Lettuce has a well-known reputation for laying down heavy grooves and taking any party they’re at to the next level.  Their choice to share the stage with Ghost-Note seems natural, the band consisting of two members of the Snarky Puppy, Dwayne “MonoNeon” Thomas, A.J Brown, and several other amazing musicians.  Ghost-Note also has a rotating cast of funky musicians who will sit in on shows from time to time, resulting in unique and memorable live experiences.  Check out these two rhythm machines at Anthology in Rochester, NY (01/10),  House of Blues in Boston, MA (01/11), Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park, NY (01/12) and Higher Ground in Burlington, VT (01/13)

Other notable performances this week include: Mdou Moctar w/ Horse Lords at Union Stage in Washington, DC (01/09), Beggars Tomb w/ The Bob Band at Gypsy Sally’s in Washington, DC (01/09), LITZ at Ambrose West in Asheville, NC (01/11), and Umphrey’s McGee’s two-night run at The National in Richmond, VA (01/11-12)

Make sure to check out the extended list of concerts for this week, which is just a bit further down the page, for a better shot at finding something near to you.  Please leave any of your own suggestions in the comment section below, or let us know if you’ll be at any of these concerts!  Stay groovy, my friends. Until next week.
