The Holiday season is here in full swing; just three days left until Hanukkah comes to an end, Christmas is only a week away, snow is back in the forecast, and the new year is right around the corner. This week, again, many of our favorite artists are taking time off from playing shows to be with family and prepare for the New Year’s Eve festivities. Don’t fret, though, there are several great performances worth checking out this week.
Dispatch will be playing a show at Rams Head Live in Baltimore, Maryland this Wednesday. If you’re not familiar with Dispatch, they are an indie/roots band that formed in the Boston area in 1996. The band quickly gained popularity and began touring nationwide, while also building an international fan base. The band announced an official hiatus in 2002, which resulted in farewell concert with an estimated 160,000 people in attendance. The band has since begun playing shows and recording albums again, this time with a social/political element. They are also well known for their humanitarian efforts, particularly in Zimbabwe. If you are unable to make the Baltimore show, the band will be at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston on Monday, 12/18 and Tuesday 12/19.
Tim Reynolds will be playing a few concerts in the area this week. Reynolds is a multi-instrumentalist best known for his band TR3, and lead guitar work in the Dave Matthews Band. His abilities with the guitar are beyond amazing, and must be experienced live in order to be fully appreciated. Reynolds will play two nights at the Blues Alley in Washington, DC on Tuesday 12/19 and Wednesday 12/20 and then head over to Philly for one night at The Ardmore Music Hall on Thursday 12/21.
This Thursday, Friday and Saturday Baltimore native Cris Jacobs will lead the Very Jerry Christmas celebration with Mookie Siegel, Dave Markowitz, and Ed Hough at Gypsy Sally’s (12/21) and The 8×10 (12/22, 12/23). The evening will feature music of both Jerry Garcia and The Grateful Dead in celebration of both Jerry, and the holidays. Videos of past celebrations can be found online without much effort. Tickets are SOLD OUT for The 8×10 shows, but Gypsy Sally’s tickets are still on sale.
Other notable performances this week include Pearly Baker’s Best at Funk n’ Waffles Downtown in Syracuse, NY, Steal Your Peach at the World Café Live in Philadelphia, PA, Broccoli Samurai at the Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland, OH.
