This week in music starts off with a performance by the legendary Bob Dylan at the Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh, PA. Dylan has an undeniable influence that permeates many of our favorite artist’s music. A phish phan-phavorite, “Mighty Quinn” or “Quinn the Eskimo, is the band’s cover of a Dylan song first recorded in 1967. The Grateful Dead combined forces with Dylan to record the collaborative live album, so cleverly titled, Dylan and the Dead. Come join us Monday night at the Heinz Hall to commemorate Bob Dylan and listen to his celebrated music.

Another legend of the same era, David Crosby, also has several upcoming performances. His current tour started in the Midwest with shows in Indiana and Ohio, will move up through the Mid-Atlantic and into New England and then work its south through the Carolinas, Georgia, Tennessee and Florida. This week Crosby will be playing at the Carnegie of Homestead Music Hall in Pittsburgh, PA, and the State Theatre in Ithaca, NY.

Bela Fleck and his wife Abigail Washburn are currently touring to promote their new album Echo in the Valley, with stops this week in Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania. The duo’s first album together won the Grammy for best folk album in 2016. Since 1998 Bela has won 15 Grammys, with an accumulated total of 30 nominations. Their new album employs a banjo-only policy, has no guest artists, and is 100% reproducible in a live format. The pair is a force to be reckoned with; you won’t want to have missed out.

Oteil Burbridge

Oteil Burbridge, best known for his bass playing in the late Allman Brother Band, and founding role in Dead & Company, has begun a short tour with his newly formed band, Oteil and Friends. Burbridge will be accompanied by John Kadlecik (guitar), Alfreda Gerald (Vocals), Eric Krasno (guitar), Melvin Seals (Keys), Jay Lane (Drums), and Weedie Braimah (percussion). Their inaugural show gave fans an experience both familiar and new. The band opened the show with the title track from Burbridge’s new album, Water in the Desert, and then went on to play songs written by Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter, Bob Dylan, and Marvin Gaye. Oteil and Friends will be playing a few shows in North Carolina, Maryland and Pennsylvania before Burbridge reconvenes with the rest of Dead & Company to tour through mid-February.

Other notable performances this week include: The Original Wailers at the Brooklyn Bowl (11/07), Steve Kimock in Philadelphia, PA (11/08) and Kent, OH (11/09), The Werks* in Morgantown, WV (11/09),  Erie, PA (11/10), and Pittsburgh (11/11),  and Keller Williams in Morgantown, WV (11/09) and State College, PA (11,10).
