The Grateful Dead powerhouse known as JRAD, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead performed three electric nights at the legendary Capitol Theatre 1/12/24-1/14/24.

The first night started off with a funky “Tangled up In Blue”. The first set included favorites like “Cumberland Blues” and “Loose Lucy” as well as “Passenger” which JRAD last played on 12/30/16.

The second set started off with a classic sing along “Uncle John’s Band” followed by “Saint of Circumstance”. The band went into one of their strongest and tightest songs, at least in my opinion, “Help” > “Slip”. The dynamic nature of the song with the high prominence of drums allows everyone to shine but really shows off Joe’s chops on the drums. The second set concluded with Dave Dreiwitz singing on the Rolling Stone’s classic “Shattered”. The band encored with Ripple.

Night three started off with some Bobby-esque vocals by Scott Metzger on “Good Morning Little School Girl”. They went straight into a thumping “Let it Grow” and one of my favorites “Mississippi Half Step Toodeloo”. The first set also included “Dancing in the Street” another song the band has down really tight and groovy. It concluded with “Franklin’s Tower”.

The last set of the run started off strong with “Playing in The Band” and include Dead Head favorites like “Truckin” & an always touching “Eyes of The World”. The second set also included “Althea” and “Cassidy”. The song encored with Tom Petty’s “Runnin’ Down a Dream”.

JRAD has yet again sold out the Capitol Theatre for three nights further solidifying their throne amongst the Grateful Dead community and beyond. They are virtuosos at adapting the Grateful Dead music into a new sound and taking it to new heights. Paying homage to the original sound but truly taking it further, in their own unique, absolutely rocking way.

Thank you for a real good time.
