Earth Night 2014 – Winter Solstice is nearly upon us

written by Amanda Morgan

Two years ago, as the nights became longer and darker nearing the Winter Solstice, a small group of musicians, artists, and spiritual activists in Central Ohio organized the gathering known as Earth Night. Created and headlined by Papadosio, the event we’ve come to love was born out of the desire to unite with the global movement to create a paradigm shift through music, art, and movement.  In response to prophecies involving the “end of time” coming from a variety of cultures, some people responded with preparations for disaster.  Instead of giving into fear when faced with these thoughts, like-minded individuals from all over the world gathered together for collective activation of new patterns that would change the trajectory of our planet.  The name Earth Night stems from the power of global unification, much like the even older Earth Day celebrated near the Spring Equinox.

Earth Night returns this year in Columbus, Ohio where we will gather together to celebrate the Solstice with music, art, and interconnectedness.  Earth Night remains rooted in the quest for environmental and social justice and the desire to pull from the wisdom of ancient and indigenous cultures whose teachings bring us closer to the earth and each other.

The gathering begins on Friday, December 19 at Park Street Saloon with rare instrumental Live PA sets by Papadosio along with Anthony Thogmartin’s experimental musical and environmental side-project EarthCry, and Third Nature – the Asheville based trio seeking to explore the soundscapes of our collective consciousness. The celebration continues into Saturday, December 20 at the L.C. Pavillion with art, workshops, and more live music from Papadosio. On Saturday Papadosio will be joined by musical co-conspirators including Dopapod and Jimkata for a series of musical performances that are sure to be incredibly mind opening and face melting.

This years’ Earth Night has expanded to include a sister event being held at the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, Colorado this weekend in accordance with Colorado’s Conscious Alliance.

Two-day passes for the event are available on Papadosio’s website for $35.00 and single day passes for both nights can also be purchased. For more information and to stay informed check out Papadosio’s website of the Earth Night facebook page. This is sure to be the solstice celebration of a life time.
