Allegheny Mountain Radio Presents: The 2nd Annual Blue Grass Valley Music Fest

Sugar shacks, Fall foliage, and maple donuts won’t be the only things drawing folks to Highland County, Virginia this year.  The second annual Blue Grass Valley Music Festival is set to take place August 8th – 10th ,  returning  back to its inaugural home at the Puffenbarger Farm, nestled among picturesque mountains in the heart of the Blue Grass Valley.

Created as a fundraiser for Allegheny Mountain Radio, the family-friendly festival aims to give back to the community it serves, all the while supporting the continuation of community-supported radio in the Allegheny Highlands.

Aside from its breath-taking views, the three day event differs from other festivals taking place throughout the summer in that organizers have made a commitment to think locally. From blues to bluegrass, from rock to old-time twang, this year’s line-up offers listeners a variety of acts to satisfy diverse musical tastes, all the while celebrating the rich talent that’s alive and well throughout the two Virginia’s.

With music beginning at 4 PM, Friday will feature sets from: Rare Gold, the Frog Pond Pickers, Yankee Dixie, Bourbon Barrel Congress, and The Hillbilly Gypsies.

Juanita Fireball will kick things of on Saturday, beginning at 11 AM.  Followed with performances by:  David and Valerie Mayfield, Hook&Bullet, The Judy Chops, Hound Dog Hill, the Halftime String Band, BlueRock, and Sun-Dried Opposum.

Rounding out the weekend will be a showcase of regional acoustic gospel/bluegrass music on Sunday.

And while music certainly lives at the festivals core, it isn’t the only thing the Blue Grass Valley Music Festival has to offer.  From farm-fresh food to local artisans; live art to regional brew, this year’s event will prove to be much more than a music fest.  It’s a celebration of life and culture in the precious mountain region it calls home.  It’s an opportunity to give back, to enjoy summer and music in the mountains, all the while supporting the little gem of a station locally known as AMR.

200 early-bird weekend passes (camping included) are available at a discounted rate of  $30.00 until May 31st or sold-out.  2nd Tier weekend passes are $40.00 and will be available for purchase until July 31st.   To order, please mail a check or Cashier’s Check made to BGVMF/WVLS to:  WVLS, PO Box 431, Monterey, VA 24465.  Please include the number of passes needed and a return address along with a $2.00 processing fee per order and your tickets will be mailed to you.  Weekend and day passes will be available for purchase at the gate.
