October 19, 2018 The Werks released a new single “Stars Collide,” a dance-able tune that “captures the magic of that moment, the exhilaration you feel when you know you’ve found the one.”  The single features sing-a-long lyrics, tasty licks from guitarist Chris Houser, and high-hat happy drum beats from Rob Chafin, who provides most of the vocals. Though I don’t know who specifically wrote the song, as a huge Rob-song fan, I have a suspicion that Chafin led the songwriting process in this one.

The flavor of this tune is distinctly disco, starting with a four-to-the-floor beat and the sing-song cascading of the synth keyboard (think ABBA), while still keeping to The Werks’ electro-jam roots. The lyrics sing about meeting a girl for the first time and falling in love – “She shined so bright the beauty in the night…Where do we go when we know the night is ours?”  The chorus is irresistibly catchy and the song will have you reaching for your partner to dance and twirl together.  Once again the guys have won my heart with their uplifting music!

We talked to Rob Chafin a little bit to gain some insights on this new single! Take a listen while you read the interview.

Where was this song recorded?
Sonic Lounge Studios in Columbus, OH, with Joe Viers as the producer.  I absolutely love that studio!

Is this a single from a new album that you guys are working on?
Yes this is one of many brand new Werks songs off of our new album, Sonder, which will be released January 25, 2019.

You debuted this at Werk Out, right?
Yes! Although technically, we debuted it at Brothers Drake in Columbus, OH, July 7th of this year during our acoustic show.  However, full band debut was at The Werk Out this year.

Who wrote the song?
I wrote most of it, with help from Mr. Daniel Shaw.

What inspired you when writing this song?
The song is about the first time you meet the love of your life and the feelings that come from that. When stars collide in the universe, they create a huge energy blast, and that’s when heavy elements like gold are created. The same thing happens when two people fall in love for the first time.

When can we plan to hear another new single?
We should hopefully have a new one out by the end of the year!
