Toubab Krewe is an Asheville, NC, based band that released their first album in 2005 and has been captivating audiences ever since. Their unique music blends African roots music with folk, rock, and jam. Consisting of unique instruments such as kora and djembe, along with traditional American instruments, their innovative sounds will speak deeply within your soul.

Their African influences come from the country of Mali, and in several West African languages, including Bambara and Wolof, Toubab means “foreigner.” “Krewe” is a reference to the New Orleans region’s spelling of the word “Crew.” The band consists of members Justin Perkins (Kora, Kamelngoni, guitar, percussion), Terrence Houston (drums), Drew Heller (guitar, piano, fiddle), David Pransky (bass, guitar), and Luke Quaranta (Djembe, Congas, percussion). They have been keeping busy and have played festivals such as Bonnaroo, High Sierra, Rothbury and Wakarusa.

Kind Roots originated in 2005 as a private birthday party for a couple of MonkeyLions (born 1980, The Year of the Monkey and in August, Leo the Lion). This event was called The Quarter Century Extravaganza since Nathan Boose and his good friend Joe turned 25 in 2005. Originally invite only, the festival is now open to the public to come and join in the extravaganza!

The festival will take place on the beautiful West Virginia venue Sunshine Daydream Memorial Park, and kids 13 and under are free. There is also free craft vending and limited booth space for $30. You must have your WV business license to vend.
